Joining another clinic as an established practitioner - is it worth it?

3 years into my aesthetics career, I joined another clinic and I haven’t looked back.

Something I have been asked about a lot by members of TNN is “was it worth joining another clinic and do I regret it?” In short, yes it was worth it and no I don’t regret it. But that is because of my personal circumstances and I was able to negotiate a deal that was mutually beneficial. For example, I am now able to work from a beautiful clinic in the Cheshire countryside with access to hundreds more patients than I would’ve ever been able to obtain by myself and access to working with some of the best brands and companies in the business but in return I now take home a percentage of the takings for the patients that I treat.

What if I don’t think I’m established enough to do this?

I myself questioned this at the time as I had found myself lost in the aesthetics industry, wondering if I should in fact quit. However, I realised and so did Adam that I have a knowledge base, interests and skill set that was lacking in the clinic at the time. That was my super power and that’s what I have used to my benefit in the past 15 months.

We have seen the bookings for skin and regenerative medicine go through the roof because that is where my skills lie. I now have someone to refer my longstanding patients to that require Adam’s skillset such as weight loss or micro ear suctioning. And we are able to share the workload of injectable such as filler and wrinkle treatments. (He’s also never had someone take so many pictures for the ‘gram before I joined!)

I’m a practitioner looking to bring someone on board, what should I do?

I would advise you look for someone in the industry that fits your brand, but also brings something new and will excite your current patients/clientele. Be prepared to invest in them as a practitioner because in doing that, you will gain a practitioner and team member that will be encouraged to grow themselves but also to grow your business - whether that’s utilising the education that is on offer from filler / toxin companies or more in depth education such as a formal qualification, it will ultimately benefit you and your business.
